i made a C++ proggie the other day, it takes server logs and parses them into html files that are just the chatting, so you can see all the convos had on that map :D

i still gotta make some adjustments, like ppl with <'s or >'s in their name stuffs the parsing up (as you can see from the 8th line in the link above) but it shouldnt be too hard to fix.. also i wanna change the colour of the person if they're dead or if they team talk, and i wanna add in adminmod says and rcon say's etc

and the font is pretty crap too

also if it parses a few files at once, it'll create a link at the bottom to go to the next one..
im proud of it :D

the parsing sounds interesting 2SX, try passing it through and changing all < and > for their respective html entities, that shoudl solve the problem. Tricky in C i'd imagine. Multi or single pass?

The secret is to parse the player string backwards. That way you can count brackets and still wind up OK.

Here's the VB routine to slice a player string that appears like:

yeah dodger i was thinking exactly that, but to make the process easier on me i didnt parse each character in the string, i just did substring and ansiPos (AnsiPos just searches within the string for antoher string and tells u where it found it) lookups to sort it out.. and i dont think/know if there's an ansistring function to search from the back of the string for some string. but i have an idea that i can just count the number of <'s and >'s and if there's more than should be, i can flag that string as dodgy and parse it differently somehow..

who chose a delimiter that can appear in the string?i know! i swear with cs1.4 its gonna have random logs like the change the order of wonid and nam and speech etc stupid valves.

Multiple or single passes through the data. I'm assumign you've read it in a line or number of characters at a time, so you've either an array or a moving frame and open file. YOUcould be moving through the array/file multiple times doing one set of actions on each pass (easy and fairly safe) or you coudl be doing all the operations on each string in one go, single pass,

As i said LogD has a full implementation of this in basic C, Kndroc wrote it nd it hasn't failed on anyone yet. You start from the right and use a for loop startign from teh len-1 of the string and decrement couting &gt; cahracters in a switch statement IIRC. The code is on the site, linky in the sig as ever.

Or of course you can cheat and define a regular expression to match it all for you. Then you can do it in a single line

Regex Guru? Not really but i do a lot of text parsing/manipulation and it's about the easiest method available, i know of no other way to exactly specify a range of patterns and select/replace text within them. It's very powerful stuff. The Am manual has some reference but i use the VBS docs because it's more pertiant to the objects i use. Any reasonable reference will do, practice is the key, it's bewildering stuff you have to use it to begin to understand it.

Is a rewrite a problem? i generally start a project and get enough code together to outline the problems/pitfalls. Then i destroy the original and begin a clean project that will work, you can never see all the problems unles you encounter them, write that one off as a prototype and start again, it's much more satisfying when you finish and you get much neater code.

CFGNBandit has been doing some spring cleaning. He removed the quickilinks dropdown (which i if you've ever looked at the page html you'll know was huuuuge) he's made the pages per-post tabled. The URLis now ozforums not ozforces (had to change my firewall and mail filters for that). The pages are laoding really fast which is good, no more waiting 30 seconds for each page.

im doing the commandline stuff at uni atm, i just grabbed borland C++ off a friend and did some stuff for windows (had to watch him write a program in it first b4 i could do it myself, commandline and borland are only very basically related, mainly in that c++ syntax follows through heh) cos i felt like it (and the results are a lot more pleasing.. u can actually do ****e!).

if you remember when hullu's winHL booster program first came out, i wrote a program for that to help u figure out what scale value you would need.. my first practical program :D

2SX, the colours are a bit odd, it's difficult to read. how abotu making the CT and name portions the red/blue colour and always having the spoken text in black so you can read through. Also how about puttign it all in a tabled structure. Then you can go through and parse the user info and construct on cell then parse the message to create the next cell, close the row and begin another for the next message. It has the disadvantage of forcing long lines to wrap the entire page but since you can only put 120 characters into a message it's not too problematic.

Sorting!!! No it's awful, you're getting into sort types timings and all sorts of stuf expressed in n p and O here, Don't do it!!!!

Programming is simple, programming complex behaviors so they appear consitant to illogical end users and work every tie is another thing alltogether though. You really want to be doing this in perl, but no-one in their right mind likes perl so never mind.

i just like the idea of being able to use the colours to figure out what team they're on and if they're dead or not without actually having to read it.. i dunno if it would still be easy if you only had their name coloured.. ill give it a go and see.

I'll see if i can get the page looking good to me and then let you see it if you like. I'm always up for a challenge. Tabling isn't a problem it's fairly easy to write as you go. making the background darker is a bad idea, stick with plain old black and white for the readable text, the colours are just indicators for the player teams

I don't do sorting, ever. It's just not somethign VB is designed to be good for and i'm not spending my time arsing about with sorting when there are more interesting things to be done. i'll leave that until i actually have a reason to learn C. The same with hash tables.

Man I just found the sweetest shop to get boarding equipment. It's basically a barn in some guys backyard with all the inventory from a store that went out of business, you can buy everything at cost. So basically 50% off what you'd pay in a normal store.

As a bonus me and a buddy went up there today to get some stuff for the summer, and when we got there the dudes said: "Come on in, were just going to smoke this dube then we'll go look at the ****." So not only did I get a pair of 80$ shorts for 35$ but I got some free weed. It was a huge score.

Who thinks using buy scripts in CS is cheating? Now I'm not talking about scripts that allow you to buy banned weapons, etc... I'm talking about a plain macro that pulls up menus, and selects options, just like doing it manually, except much faster (and not susceptible to lag).

If you do think they are cheats, then what about binding keys to access weapon menus directly, reducing it from 3-4 keystrokes to 1 or 2...

The debate came up on jar's server this afternoon, and I thought I'd get some other opinions on it.

I don't use any scripts and i normally get away from teh spawn points faster than most, i use the old style menu's though which makes it more responsive i feel. Scripts aren't cheating unless you're using them in gameplay, if a script gives you a noticible advantage for the round then it's cheating, if it just buys your weapons so you don't have to then it's OK with me.

I dont need sorting routines, i've no use for them in general, it's just a complex subject i've avoided so far, i'll have to write my own eventually but it's the theory behind them that counts.

I don't think buying scripts are at all cheating. They can be an advantage, but it can also make things a little fairer. For example, lets say that there is no buy time. It's a somewhat laggy server and your team jsut lost the last round. Now instead of wasting time to wait seconds before teh menu shows, you have a fair advantage over hte enemy who is not able to use that time to gain too much of a strong hold against your team. BTW, have you guys heard of the secret walk trick? You rebind your walk key to a different command and it lets you walk at about twice the speed. It's great when you need to rush, but need to do it stealthly. If you guys know the command, please don't post it hear, but if you want to hear it, I will PM you.

I don't consider buy scripts a cheat. If they were cheating Valve wouldn't have built those functions into the scripting engine. And in most leagues, where it would really matter, there are buy times, so what Goku talked about wouldn't apply.

This said I don't use them, I just have nothing against those that do.

Now, as for walking at twice the speed, that is cheating. I use sound just as much as sight when I play and if I couldn't hear someone but they could come up behind me, silently, faster than I could walk that would definetly be an unfair advantage.

Ok, the only sorting I know is Shell Sort and Bubble Sort and I don't really remember how each one works, I just have code (VB) for them somewhere. Are there faster, more effective techniques?

I still would like to see how it's done though Goku, maybe think of a way to prevent it

+speed slows u down by 30% (this is the normal walking and is totally silent)

+WalkRealFast!!!! slows u down by only 8%, but it does sometimes give off noise, like if you strafe and press forward at the same time it will sometimes give off a footstep.. so u gotta be careful. (+WalkRealFast!!!! is the command for Walking Real Fast!!!! i believe).

i dont think there's anyway to stop ppl doing this.. most pro clans use it

removed this "secret" by request, but i dont think its a secret at all to tell the truth.

while it IS being banned this guy spops in and uses a buy script to break the ban and buy the weapon..

(it happened when it was pistols only...he bought a colt)

i fell that IS cheating cause he:
1. Broke the current rules and bought a colt when it was pistols only

2. NOW had an unfair advantage over eeryone else on the server.

as far as i'm concerned...that is cheating anyway you cut it.

well, it like fish, has gills, so it has to hold its breath. and I dont think its legs are strong enough to hold its own weight on land. A crab, on the other hand, would probably work well for you.

Why would it's legs not be strong enough? it has a hard chitinous exoskeleton doesn't it? In which case they can take somre pretty punishing pressures, as long as the muscles are strong enough to support it's body weight ( it's not a compelled to swim or use bouyancy to be mobile) then it shoudl be able to move around. A much ebtter reason not to take them far out of water is the oxygen exchange, crabs can breate both air and water (the dead mans fingers are the gills IIRC) but they have to back cycle and do all sorts of odd things to manage it, in which case i'd doubt the bigger and generally much more aquatic lobsters can breath well if at all) But hey their vision is funky, those movable bands and stuff are fascinating.

Well Im back and you guys had need not worry. All that stuff was already out there. We aren't exactly roughing it at my cottage, we do have plumbing with a toilet inside and a healthy stock of toilet paper to go with it. We also have a eating utensils that we just leave down there.

You see, before every pic I have TD WIDTH=300. That is what creates a bigger space in between the pics...

OMG, I just downloaded and played new CS 1.4 and it sucks! Yeah, the spectator stuff is cool, but the inability to jump around is just aweful! Also, your computer is forced to play the "weapon select" animation before you can fire your weapon. Example, you must watch your Deagle spin before you can shoot. Who the hell would ever spin a Deagle??? Can you even spin one?? Well, I give it a rating of "S" for "PIECE OF SHlT"

he only real change is the jumping so far and quite frankly if it's that much of a problem then you deserve to be named a jump monkey.

I personally like the jump thing. There are people on the server I play on that used to jump around like a man with thier nuts on fire and I couldn't hit them for the life of me. Now not only can I hit them while they're jumping but they can't hit me because they're spray is so wide, I love it.

Gherkin, you should adopt a habit of when you see an enemy maybe do one jump then crouch. Jumping around corners also works fairly well still. And I haven't experimented very much with this but slow down only seems to effect forward movement. So if you strafe and jump repeatedly you won't get effected.

Oh, and the fast walk secret that Goku took such effort to keep off these forums doesn't seem to work anymore. I just find that funny.

yeah, they fixed a lot of bugs, including the being T with a CT skin. That one was funny. It didn't work well, but it was halarious. I hate this new jumping thing, though. Try jumping up onto a few boxes, its a pain in the ass. There should be a variable to turn that on or off. Also, the gun animation thing sucks.

I hate the AWP and they won't add a cvar to turn that on and off, i don't see why you shoudl get a cvar for the jumps. Plus if you jump off something and hurt yourself on landing you don't slow down, try it. The hossie AI seems better ( less to no flickering and they don't get stuck) and the weapons seem slightly less random in their accuracy. Having said that i've no server to play online on yet soi 'll have to see how it squares up to humans at some point.

I've put my server up again too BITM and I have that same problem. Except the server doesn't really crash at a map change, it just shuts down. In the log it says:L 04/25/2002 - 18:00:42: Server shutdownand I swear to you I was nowhere near the computer when this happened. So I've still got some issues to figure out, but I have a feeling that WinXP Pro is about as good for running a server as Win98se.

Well I figured out my problem. When I set up my server this time I set up the plugin.ini from a backup and I still had a plugin I was developing for someone that would shutdown the server when it was empty so that serverdoc would restart it. Man, do I feel dumb now.

i just tried to connect thru "net games" and bringing up the servers list.

I usually just hit console and then F10 (my bind to exec amdinpass.cfg) and then F11 (connect 208.62.89.157:27015)

I never see the status box..

anyways so i went thru the list..found my server and tried to connect that way...

Rather than connecting to the server right away...

IT connects for a 10 count..after connecting it says "connected to server" and counts down to about 80 and then it says "Connection to server timed out"

but my statsme consgreet comes up...so the server is running ...I just can't connect...

You know, I was never much of a jumper. In fact I hated the damn froggers (the guys who keep jumping in a battle). But, the new jumping in CS 1.4 is too drastic.

I play cs_italy alot and now it's hell to play as a CT. I used to rush the apt, but now you can't jump on the boxes to the window fast enough:(

Also, valve said they balanced out alot of the weapons that use the same type of ammo. So, what do they do with the 9mm weapons? They make them (mp5) as weak as the glock:(

Other than that, I like the changes. OH, one more thing. I had a problem with left and right handed models. For some reason I kept switching my handedness in the middle of games. So, I had to remove the left handed models:(

Buzzybots can be really fast, it doens't look much but get a few people together and it's pretty competetive i find. No too many players but it's goo all the same. If you guys can set up a server we could have some matches.

The carpet people, truckers and the early diskworld (with Rincewind and the librarian) were good, after that it pretty much turned into a franchise and became crap. His books are pretty short, even the long ones only take a day or so to read normally. Now if you want somehtign difficult to read try some stephen donaldson, that's hard work.

I wasn't impressed with LOTR the film, come on, Kate Blanchet as Galadriel? she's supopsed to be the most beautiful being in existance not some scary skinny bird, that was possibly the worst choice ever, well that and Alaiya(sp?) as Akasha in QOTD, i'm not even going to see the film if they can' be bothered to read the character descriptions before they make it.:(

Queen of the damned is a good boook, but the casting choices and the way they are going to make the violence the high point in the film will completley ruin it, it'sa means to an end but they won't put that accross, that's just infuriating.

Well, since I can't really afford to go to the movies anymore it really doesn't matter to me. Ever since the new SilverCity moved in. At first prices for tickets were $7.00, $2.50 on cheap night. But that was only until it drove the other theatre out of business. Now we have a choice of $12.00 a movie or driving for an hour to get to the next closest one. That or you can do what I do and boycott the movies, at least until they come out on video.

Personnally I enjoyed (reading) LOTR. But you are right it may be a bit long. Not having seen the movie, but hearing a bit about it, I think it's disapointing that they left Tom Bombadil out of it, but I can understand since he really does have no significant influence on the main plot.

no, I haven't. I've heard about it, but I have no interest in reading the book or seeing the movie. Have you guys read the Ender's Gamer series by Orson Scott Card? Those are some pretty bitchin books.

No, i've heard they are good but i've never seen them in the library and books are expensive. Gnugy, it's about £5.10 for a film over here (10 screen cinema 5 minutes walk away :) ) which is about $7 (AM not CN) which isn't so bad. Still no good films to see though, LOTR wasn't as good as it could have been and still missed lots out. Plus the casting choices were bad "welcome to rivendell... Mr Anderson" Whoa! Kate blanchet as a beautiful woman, way off the mark and the twisting of the story just to get Arwen more airtime renered the ford scene worthless plot wise. Nice horses but pointless.

Well, since 7 bucks american = about 13 bucks Canadian, it worse than what'd have to pay. But since you deals with pounds everyday and get paid in pounds, it's probably better for you. Anyway, I may just have to stop my boycott, for a girl, so you'd understand.

Game? i've no idea, Ropeys not about and i'm not even sure if there's anyone but me dio alfred and Ropey on the dev list anymore, cavey migth pay, depends if he's busy. Someone arrange a time ( 8 PM to 2AM is GMT is fine by me anyone not up then?) and we'll see what number we get.

ok, this is the tricky part.

wraith you are 7 hours ahead of me , gnugy, in canada is appox an hour ahead, so he is 6 hours behind wraith, Goku/Kndroc is 2 hours behind me jarnuts/dio I think are 2 hours ahead, no idea where rope is from, Alfred/2SX are in auss, so he is like 16 hours ahead of me....... Dodger is in new mexico, same time zone as I, whom did I miss?

He was in priscilla! i think this calls for a &lt;neo&gt; Whoa! &lt;/neo&gt;> I've not seen the filem but i know vaugly what it's about/like and he's in it? Thats one to remember. Elron in the books was your typical elder elf lord, he didn't get angry, he was serene, hugh played him as close to a human as possible which i just didn't like, he shoudl have has some poise. Plus you know he's jsut going to say "Your men are already dead" when news of the party reaches him....

I've nothing against liv tyler (/me think i've got thnks to put against her given the chance) but that change of the story was important, the flight to the ford was helped by the elf lord whom the Nazgul feared, it showed they were simply enemies not all powerful and it was ruiined just to show a few more shots of liv tyler, a poor trade methingks. I'm betting there are a alot f people who now think that the Nazgul are Sauron. if you're going to tellit, tell it right.

I can't see how tom bombadil woudl have fitted it? I never did see much point to that point. I suppose it showed that there were other more elemental and capricious powers in the world than those fighting but it never did add much i thought.

well 2sx, when you posted it said it was 3:25 AM here, but I don't know if I have the time set up right on these forums, I'll just have to post this one then edit it.

I never said Tom Bombadil was important to the plot, he's just cool.

as it turns out it's 8:24 AM here, but it says I posted this a 6:24 AM. which means my time for the forums is two hours behind my actual time, meaning that when it's 7:25PM over where 2sx is, it's not 3:25AM, but 5:25 AM meaning I am 14 hours behind 2sx. I have no idea whether this is good or bad but Im just posting as a fact.
