What's this "admin_password" shxt?

Didn't find that one in the manual, and I can't seem to find it in the scripts...

Haven't tried it to see if it'll work. If it does, you're my savior, and I have one suggestion to improve

A stupid change, and the developer and echo nonsense is totally useless, and I really wouldn't put it there. But...all this does it make it so that the key you use to auth works when you're not in game. Some keys are a pain in the ass, and don't log you in when you're in the console ("Enter" is my auth key). Using this alias, hitting enter does nothing, but letting it go, even when the console is down, will enter the admin_password.

Of course...all of this assumes that your server is full, and you haven't entered your admin pass yet (following step 2), so you can't take your reserved spot.

Since I don't know how admin_password works, I don't know if this will work.

Testing it out...of course admin_password doesn't work unless you're connected to the server, but again...I have to use the +alias to login using the enter key while the console is still down.

This still doesn't solve to potential problem of not being able to log in to your own full server, though. Since you've gotta be connected to admin_password, but you've gotta use "setinfo pass password" to take a reserved spot (unless you hit that key at exactly the right time), theres a snag.

My static IP users get around this with ips.ini, so it'll work well there.

Eh. admin_password is so much easier than teaching people about autoexec.cfg.

I am well aware of using a script to make this look prettier. You have no idea of my level of scripting ability. This guide is meant to be as a way to make everyone able to have access to their server. It is the simplest way to make it useable for everyone. Also, when you hit the key bound simply to admin_password blahblah

It shows:
[ADMIN] Password Received
[ADMIN] Password Accepted for user '234324'

That way you know it works. :)

There isn't a really simple way to get people able to use reserved slots. There is, but there isn't. Some people have problems working with configs, and thats fine, so I left it out.

Also, I personally feel that reserved slots are stupid and I hate them. If my server is full, then I am happy. Let them enjoy it I say and just hit retry like the rest of them. :)

Reserve spots are my little gold stars that I give to not-lame players...and I hate when operators set up reserve spots that take the place of normal server spots. I want a 12-man server, so I make a 16-maxplayer with 4 reserve spots, and set the reserve type to whichever one it is that says public slots are preferred over reserve.

Also, reading your page...dod doesn't seem to be quite as lame and unsuppportive as CS. I moved over last week...and for the first time in a while, it's been downright fun operating the server.

If you can stand DoD, maybe you can have some luck too.

I was considering making a PVK server. There are zero full-time dedicated servers for that mod and it makes me laugh.

I just don't have physical access to my server, (its on campus) so I haven't been able to set it up yet.

Hopefully CS will be more cheat-free with the coming updates. :)

There's a mod out for HL called snowball fight, or some such nonsense...

If I had the power, I'd put up my DoD server, 20 man...and then a 12-man snowball fight and 32 player rocket crowbar, and pray for the day when either one of them would get full. :)

You do, in fact, not need to use regex. Since your users.ini only has wonid's in it, there are no special characters to handle. You may use regex if you choose to though. If it makes you happy. :)

You do not need the file anymore. However, I didn't tell people to delete it for two reasons:

1. It may be useful again in an upcoming version of Admin Mod. We wouldn't want to make all those poor admins make another config file again when they already had it made now would we? The answer is no. No we would not.

2. It doesn't matter if it is in there, and it takes up space that could be considered as "negligible" on your hard drive. As long as it isn't referenced to (like in the command line or autoexec.cfg) then it isn't even looked at by HL.

Now let's not get hostile here. If you followed my word to the letter, than it will work. I promise. :)

I would need some more information, like what happens when you try to run commands in your server, or exactly when you notice that you indeed have a problem at all. (What tips you off.)

and no it doesnt work even if you login in the server itself i mean when your connected it recognizes everything except the password

It is really really really hard for me to tell what is-wrong / you-did-wrong without more info.

OK here is how it is. If you want to re-read 'The Guide' you will notice where I say Only use WONID's in users.ini.

I put that there because, guess what, I only suggest using WONID's in the users.ini. No names. No reserved names. No need for regex. (Though you may put it to 1 if it makes you happy.)

Now, also notice at the top of this thread where it says, "If you want to contradict 'The Guide' though, I will laugh at you and tell you to read it again." Do you know what that means?

That means that I am going to laugh at you: "ha"

Because you contradicted it. You may choose to do whatever you want to do with your files, but I do not offer support for those who choose to go the custom route.

Ok, because I am new at this. I follow Directions. AND NOW WHERE I repeat NO WHERE in the Setup Directions does it tell you to deleate all of the crap written in the Samples. SO I didnt. Well after re-reading Moos article (which is well written, I might add) I said screw it and I deleated everythign from the Models.ini Ips.ini and all the other crap that came in the files as Samples. And Voala It worked..

I have admin now just to import one of those Scripts that will do that menu options.. Thats all i need now. MOOOHAHAHAHAHAHA:p :p :p :p :p :p :D :D :D :D

Not sure on the Rcon thing i just saw it was different than what Moo said and his way actually worked. You do however need to remove all that stuff from autoexec.cfg.. and then try it and load it manually.. Also i didnt see that you included your Users.ini fiel. So i cant tell if you did it right or not.. If you follow his advice and then Try to add your other stuff it might help you out. Instead you are keeping all of your addons and tyring to incorporate somehting that you dont know why its not working.

What I am saying is. Save your Zip file somewhere and then Delete everything in your files on your comp and just put in what he tells you to.. Then start adding back using Copy Paste what you want to have. You might find it will work better.

Do not get rid of the rcon_password. That has nothing to do with getting access to your server through adminmod.

That is for rcon access, and is part of Half-Life.

Though the sv_password is new to me. Why is that there twister?

Couple of things:

1. You had servercfgfile used incorrectly. That is used to specify a different file other than server.cfg as your default. Since there was nothing else on that line, it did nothing. If you were trying to use that to make your server.cfg execute your clanmod.cfg, you don't need to do that. The exec clanmod.cfg line is fine the way it is and will work.

2. Why do you have so many password fields in your adminpass.cfg?

You play on a bunch of servers that you have admin rights on?

Anyway, try using the files as they are right now. Change your server password and rcon password if you want, but try leaving every thing else, if not for just testing.

1. Backup all of your text files, (at least the ones that these overwrite.)

2. Once backed up somewhere else, put these in their respective directories and overwrite old ones.

3. restart server

4. join, then in game hit your pause key (it was bound to pause, hope you don't mind. only for testing)

5. do an admin_csay blahblah

6. come back here and let us know how it went

That sounds reasonable.

I don't know enough about linux to tell why there are problems, and it may be something that was only in your case, because I get a lot of private messages about this sort of thing, and no one has had that trouble before.

I say, if win2k works, use it.
It's easy and is really stable for me.

and btw i found how i could get auth again :D just pasted from original cfg to my cfg, made some changes and it worked (mayby a command must be behind another one) anyway if i delete 1 thing it doesnt work anymore :/

I understood the letter perfectly, it s just that in the game, the admin_password ***** says unknown command: admin_password

That makes me think that your users.ini file is not set up correctly.

I followed your directions and it was working great last night! I was havin so much fun with god mode and teleporting on my server! lol! But now I waske up this morning, and try to connect, and it says, this name has been reserved and kicks me. I am in the users.ini file WONID:password:access level. My ip address is in the ips.ini. My password is in the adminpass file as sethome "pw-home" "password"
But for some reason I cannot login. I do not have any reserved spots yet, they're all public. What should my access number be? I was confused about subtracting reserved name? It didnt work last night until i changed it to the full one. 131709... something like that. So how can I get back on my server?

You did indeed not follow the directions.

When you said the words "adminpass file" I could tell that you didn't follow the directions right away.

You haven't read the manual, or else you would understand the difference between reserved slots and reserved names.

I really want everyone to have no problems with AdminMod, and to get it all working correctly, but you gotta help yourself a bit too.

Do you know why the guide is different from the manual? Because the manual way doesn't work, but you should know the difference between reserved name access and reserved slots. I know that they share a word, but they are different.

There is a reason that I didn't mention the ips.ini file. This guide is for n00bs, and the easiest way that works is the way in the Guide. You don't have to have an ips.ini file, so I don't address it. If you want to, thats awesome, but read up on it, and do it later.

I do mention the adminpass.cfg file more than once. If you have trouble with the big words, you may want to consult your dictionary.

Yes, my way is different from the manuals, but it works, and it works good.

M00, great manual, I understood everything it said and I followed everything the best I can… but I still have a problem with the server kicking me out, because my name is reserved. I read just about all the forums I could find and I realized what could be wrong. Your manual describes the process of logging admin access into a dedicated server, which means there must be two computers. I am trying to use admin mod with a listen server, but as I said above, the I can’t complete the creation, because I get kicked out before I create/join. Hopefully you understand my babbling… and can solve my problem.

Yay! I got it working!

I was pondering what was wrong, when I just thought about some weird idea. I opened user.ini and i changed my WONID to a random name (i used hobomann) and changed my access back to 65535.

Then, I created my server, and since my name is different and i stopped using WONID, i could get it. THough i didn't have admin access, i pressed f11 (binded from your manual) and then changed my name to hobomann.

Immediately i gained full admin access. Amazing and I was just screwin around. Though I understand the risks of using a name instead of a WONID... this is just a listen server I plan to use to play my friends

THough i did figure this out myself, without your manual which EXPLAINED CLEARLY what each file did, I would never have done this.

m00, im not gonna say i followed your instructions to the letter because its not working so i must have missed something but ive read it over and i cant see what i did wrong. i still cant seem to get access to admin commands... i went into a server and typed status.. i got my wonid and put it in my user.ini and when i created my server it said reserved name... so i put it back to my nickname in the user.ini and it lets me into my server but it says(when i type in a command) you dont have access to that command. so i set my password and it says password recieved... but then it doesnt say that it is accepted... im a n00b when it comes to admin mod. this is me -> :confused:

for starters, you have the wrong access number in your users.ini or else you wouldn't be having a probme with reserved names. your users.ini is most liklely at fault for your difficulty getting commands as well.

Hey moo i followed you directions exactly the way they were written. When i try to log in as admin it says password accepted. When i try to use commands it says i do not have the right or something like that. I have the highest access level and have dobuled checked with the server a million times. Actually, I say this because it is all in the manual. If you can't find it, then read it again. There is a whole section about setting up your users.ini and your password. And just so you know, I am very helpful here, especially when they are questions that arn't covered in teh manual.

Name reservation is 16384. 131071 (FULL) - 16384 = 114687. It does exist and it is in M00's manual. I run two servers, W2K and Linux 7.2. Only my Linux box has this problem. W2K is working EXCELLENT!! However, the company we rent a game server from (14 plyr public for 33.00!!) runs Linux 7.2. M00, I know you get n00b after n00b askin you ?'s about this..... I swear I followed your guide TO THE LETTER. I am not new to admining servers, or OS variations, I am an IT professional by day, CS server admin by night..... Both of my installations are identical, except of course the obvious OS dependent filez, W2K works, L7.2 does not. All I see when I do an admin_help 1 is 10 of 16 commands. My password is received, but authentication never actually occurs. Any ideas?

There has been one other person who had the linux problem. I am not sure if you guys both made the same mistake on it because of some weird thing, or if it doesn't work the same, but no one else has had a linux-only problem before. :(

Twister, since you seem to have fixed this, I am sure that grape nutz would appreciate if you went into some detail on how you did it.

Grape nutz, I know that twister had his users.ini set up correctly and still didn't work when we were having problems with it, cause he sent me his files, so if he has a solution, then you may want to heed.

it is possible that you need to use regex to get your names to work, cause you have "<" ">" and "-" characters

But, you didn't follow the guide.

Do you know how I know this? Your access level is wrong, (131071 is not right) and that is explicitly explained (haha) in the guide.

Read it and follow its wisdom. I wouldn't suggest trying to slap yourself, as that won't work because you are an admin and can't execute hurtful commands on admins (you). Try changing the map to test your access.

You might want to have a longer password, though the single x is probably ok.

Read the guide. It will lead you to enlightenment.

If you have the level of 114687 then you shouldn't have any reserved name problems. If you do, then get one of those big magnets from the scrapyard and run it next to your comp. Then eat cheese popcorn.

I followed everything you said and everything works great on my lan games, but I can't get net games to work. In the net game I type admin_password (pass) and it says password received but then never says the second line and refuses all of my admin commands. How can the lan game work and not the net part?

In the console type status. Look for your name and then you'll see your wonid. Make sure you get your wonid and not your playerid.

I realize this is probably a bit old and there were a lot of posts between your start and this end but...

I understand you don't like reserved spots. Fair enuff. I give reserved slots to my server regulars and to my clan members. I also need a way to protec their tag. Currently that has been done in the users.ini file using their name. I thought I had the most current info on this exploit from florians news post about prefixing your passwords with an underscore. Is this no longer a valid fix? If it isn't, how do I protect clan tags and how can I reserve slots?

yeah i followed all your directions then i did what i thought i was supposed to do (i opened hlds from a shortcut with a target line of C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hlds.exe -game cstrike +maxplayers 20 and then i opened halflife went to counterstrike went to create game put the same settings went to ok) it still said [ADMIN] That is a reserved name on this server or whatever.
PLEASE HELP ME!:(
