doesn't have discrete molecules, rather the whole thing is like one large molecule. the molecular formula gives the ratio of sodium and chlorine. its a lattice made up of sodium and chlorine ions, so the ions are gonna bond strongly, so the whole thing is going to bond pretty strongly. it's gonna take alot of heat to get em to wiggle their way free of those strong electrostatic forces.....

thats like high school chem, and i still remember it 2 years on...

sodium itself is a heavier atom than H2O (and boils at a higher temp), and with its respective bonding, thus has a higher bp?
